What part of Singapore is one-north?

One-north is a new and bold mixed development, meant to reposition the city as a knowledge economy. It combines research facilities and business parks with educational institutes, residences and recreational amenities, aimed at creating a work-live-play-learn environment that is conducive for creative minds to thrive.

In the 1990s, Singapore’s government conceived of one-north as an answer to the country’s looming globalisation and a need to reposition the nation as a knowledge-based economy. In 2001, former Deputy Prime Minister Dr Tan Keng Yam officially launched the project with the aim of transforming it into a “science hub” and a “global talent hub”.

While one-north may have its roots in Singapore’s history (Kampong Glam and Little India were once plantations and farms), it is now a vibrant modern city. It is the location of some of the city’s most renowned enterprises and tech companies, such as Google and Apple.

It also contains prestigious educational institutions, including the National University of Singapore and INSEAD. The latter is known for its world-class business education, and it has been a key tenant of one-north since its launch.

Some of the best schools in the region are located within one-north, a fact which makes it a great option for families looking to send their children to school. In particular, there are a number of good international schools in the area, such as Fairfield Methodist School and PlayFACTO School.

The area has plenty of heritage buildings, too. Those with an interest in history will enjoy visiting Rochester Park and Wessex Estate, where many of the black-and-white colonial bungalows that were built for the British military have been restored and turned into high-end restaurants and bars.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the core areas in one-north, you can find quiet, peaceful oases that make for a relaxing place to unwind or have a family picnic. There are also plenty of rest areas, sheltered plazas and even Wi-Fi connections, so that you can take your time to relax and recharge at the end of the day.

As Singapore grows into a global centre for high technology, more and more high-end homes are being built in the area. Some of these luxury homes have been designed by world-renowned architects like Zaha Hadid, and they offer a comfortable and luxurious living space in the heart of one-north.

There are also many affordable and reasonably priced apartments, condos and serviced suites in one-north for those who wish to live here short-term. Some of these units are even close to one-north MRT station, making commutes hassle-free!

The one-north area is also a great choice for digital nomads and young entrepreneurs. Citadines Fusionopolis Singapore offers a selection of chic one-bedroom loft units for rent that are ideal for digital nomads or entrepreneurs planning a short stay in the city.

With a number of coffee joints opening up in the area, one-north is attracting a crowd of coffee lovers from all over the island, thanks to its convenient location and excellent cafes that serve up a good cup of java. Jimmy Monkey and Hoopla in one-north Gateway, Revolution Coffee in Infinite Studios and Envy Coffee in Nexus@One-North are all thriving and have drawn a crowd of office workers and locals alike. the hill one north
