However, if you don’t mind waiting until the start of the day, you can still enjoy some of the greatest games of all time!
Life is Strange: True Colors
If you’re a fan of the Life is Strange series then you’re going to love that the series will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch. The game is set to release in September and will come to PC and Xbox One as well.
Square Enix has already made a number of announcements for the new game. It revealed several details at its E3 2021 press conference, including a trailer for the game and the fact that it is available to preorder.
The game will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on September 10th. In addition to Life is Strange: True Colors, the game will also include a remastered version of Before the Storm. There will also be a Remastered Collection which includes the original Life is Strange and the remastered versions of Before the Storm and Life is Strange: The Lost Chapters.
The Life is Strange franchise tells stories about young people with paranormal abilities. Alex Chen, the main protagonist, has a power called Empathy, which allows her to sense emotions in others. This ability has caused her a lot of trouble in the past. Now, she is investigating the death of her brother in her small town. However, she is not sure if he died from an accident.
Life is Strange: True Colors will feature a graphic novel-like feel to it. Players will be able to see into the minds of the residents of Haven Springs, as they make major decisions.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Square Enix’s E3 2021 starts with the announcement of the highly-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy video game. This third-person action adventure will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. It will feature iconic Marvel characters like Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Gamora.
The trailer for the game shows players stepping into the role of Star-Lord. He pulls up a command wheel mid-battle, and uses a mix of melee and ranged attacks. In addition, he is able to issue commands to teammates.
The game is based on the Marvel comic book superhero team known as the Guardians. Each member of the team has unique abilities. But unlike the film version, the Guardians do not look like their counterparts. Instead, they are designed with the best elements from the films and comics.
Guardians of the Galaxy will feature fast-paced, real-time combat. Players will be able to command other Guardians, and make branching decisions that can dramatically change the game’s story.
During the Square Enix’s E3 2021 show, the developers gave a lengthy demo of the game, and showed gameplay footage. There was also a developer featurette that offered commentary. All in all, it was a great start to the conference.
After the show, Square Enix released a handful of new trailers. They included the official launch trailer, a deep dive video, and a story trailer. Besides the trailer, they announced that most of the game’s licensed music will be available.
Doom Eternal
Doom Eternal is the next iteration of the venerable Doom franchise. Last year’s incarnation saw major improvements over the original, including a DLSS optimization for PCs. The upcoming title is expected to make a splash on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch in November. Aside from the nifty new features, the game will also see two feature expansions.
For starters, there’s a new campaign mode and two additional feature packs, one akin to the original game and the other an homage to the Wii-U title. These additions will give players plenty of reasons to return to the original title, especially with the inclusion of new characters and weapons. In the mean time, there are several more titles coming down the pipeline, including a new version of Shin Megami Tensei.
While Doom Eternal hasn’t been a hit amongst PC gamers, the game has been selling like hotcakes on Xbox and PlayStation. That’s no surprise, considering the impressive technical and graphics achievements of the game. However, fans are still pining for the original. After all, the original title isn’t for everyone, and the upcoming reimagining promises a much more accessible game experience.
As for Nintendo, the company’s press conference at E3 was a whirlwind of announcements. In addition to the expected new and improved titles, Nintendo unveiled the WarioWare series, a first-person shooter and a new Metroid game. It also showed off its newest gizmos, like a slick new portable console, the Switch, and a nifty looking controller.
Legend of Zelda
As Nintendo celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Zelda series, they’re planning a number of new games to be released in 2021. One of the most anticipated new games is a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is set for a Switch release in 2022.
Along with the announcement of the next game in the franchise, Nintendo also announced that the Breath of the Wild sequel will have new features and areas. Eiji Aonuma, the series producer for The Legend of Zelda, revealed the news in an update on Tuesday.
In addition to the sequel, Nintendo has also announced that they will be launching a new Game & Watch system in November. This system will be a throwback to the classic Nintendo hardware and will include three classic Zelda games.
During their Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo showed off a number of new gameplay videos and hints at the upcoming games. Aside from Breath of the Wild, several other titles were announced, including two games in the Tekken series, a new Metroid game, Mario Party Superstars, Mario Golf Super Rush, and more.
In addition to the announced games, Nintendo also announced a series of retro-styled minigames called WarioWare. They’re currently available for pre-order, and a minigame marathon is coming in September. Other notable games are Life is Strange: True Colors, which launches in September, and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which will be available for pre-order on September 24.
Splatoon 3
Splatoon 3 is the game that takes the Squid and kids to a whole new level. The latest and greatest edition of the squid and kid game is a smorgasbord of fun, with an emphasis on multiplayer in all its forms. This is also the first time that the Salmonid have taken on the role of solo protagonist, and the game has all the bells and whistles a developer could ask for.
We already knew that Splatoon 3 was coming to the Nintendo Switch, but that wasn’t the end of the story. Its release date is currently slated for February 22, 2022, but with Nintendo’s usual industriousness, we should expect some teasing in the lead up to that date. With the launch of the new console, it’s no surprise that the Squid and kids are getting a big dose of the spotlight. In fact, Splatoon 2 has just received its final Splatfest, and is a requisite for the Splattatoonists, so if you haven’t splatted your fingers on your console yet, now’s the time to grab a few buddies and splatter some pixels on a squid and kid.
Taking the time to explore the game in depth, we’ve learned that there’s more to the game than meets the eye, with the aforementioned main characters taking to the high seas in style. For instance, the best way to slay your opponents in the open world is to take a stroll through Splatville, the game’s hub and spawning ground for the aforementioned Salmonid.
Nintendo Direct
E3 is the largest video game industry event of the year. Traditionally, Nintendo has hosted a Nintendo Direct at the show to give a sneak peek of upcoming games. But this year, the company is taking a different approach. They’re bringing in some newcomers.
First, there is the Nintendo Treehouse. This is a three-hour, livestream broadcast of gameplay from upcoming Nintendo Switch titles. It’s a good way to see some of the most exciting things coming to the Switch in the near future.
During the Nintendo Direct at E3 2021, the company announced a new Metroid game. The new side-scrolling title, Metroid: Dread, is set to release October 8. A new Samus amiibo will be included, too.
Also in the news is a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Sadly, the date for the sequel has yet to be announced.
Another big announcement is that Nintendo has entered into a partnership with Niantic to bring Pikmin to mobile devices. If you’re familiar with the game, you’ll know that it features classic game boards from the Nintendo 64 era.
The Nintendo Switch Pro is also expected to arrive in the next few months. It’s rumored to feature a new Nvidia chip that allows for DLSS support.
In addition, the company also announced an initiative to develop original titles. Several games, including Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, and Life is Strange, are in development.
