Ruqyah is the reading of verses of the Quran, seeking refuge and remembrance of Allah. It is used as a method of healing for a variety of ailments and problems. It is a form of alternative treatment that was carried out by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and the Sahabah to treat themselves or help others.

There is a common misconception that only certain people can perform Ruqyah, however it is something that should be done by all Muslims who are in the state of ihram or ghusl. The recitation of the verses of the Quran and the duas that are recited can benefit all types of people whether it be physical, mental or emotional.

Some of the righteous predecessors used to recite the ayats of the Quran and supplicate to Allah in order to cure themselves from sickness or black magic. They also recited the Quran over their body to protect themselves from the evil eye or jinns. Several scholars have stated that it is permissible to write verses of the Quran, Allah’s names and attributes as well as duas on a piece of paper and use it for Ruqyah. The ayats that are written must be from the Sacred Book of Allah and not fabricated by man as these would be considered Shirk.

In addition to reciting the verses of the Quran and making duas, one should also drink plenty of water, especially zam zam and eat seven Ajwa dates daily. This is what the Messenger of Allah alayhi wa sallam recommended as the best way to stay protected from evil eye, black magic and jinns. Ruqyah sheets
